The past year has been challenging, but if the actions of our students, staff and community are any indication, we are capable of managing and responding to any situation that comes our way.
In response to increased community needs during the COVID-19 epidemic, the Parkway Food Pantry evolved from providing weekend food bags, to providing boxes of food for pick up every few weeks. None of this would have been possible without the support of our community and partners. We are incredibly grateful for every drive that has been done and every dollar that has been raised to ensure that we create a more equitable learning environment for all students.
When asked about the Pantry’s rapid growth, Central Area Social Worker Jess Buettner said, “I’m really proud of the impact the pantry has had in our community and how we managed the growth. We moved from a backpack program focused on students to a pantry that focuses on serving the whole family, and grew in numbers by 400% ... We’ve been able to provide opportunities for the communities around us to be a part of something bigger. Which in this very strange year, I think is something we’ve all needed at different times.”
